Character design, concept art, background visuals, character building, robotics, props: every single detail a crew has to think of and decide upon before they can get start actually making the film. For two days we immersed ourselves in the magic of visual storytelling.
Come meet the world’s leading and inspirational artists in the Dutch capitol of design Eindhoven. We will be joined by over 40 international artists and designers for a program including artist talks, workshops, demos, presentations, portfolio reviews, paint-overs, an exhibition with original artworks, an Art Market, Sketch Lounge, VR Area and, of course, good food and drinks! We hope to see you there as well!

Character designer John Nevarez has been an artist within the animation industry for over 20 years. He is known for his collaboration with Disney and Pixar animation studios resulting in his working for films like Coco and Inside Out. Due to an injury he had to cancel his visit at last year's The Art Department, but he made sure to keep his schedule free and attend it in 2019!
Concept artist and art director Floris Didden won two Emmy awards with Karakter, the studio he co-founded. He made concept art for Game of Thrones and Killzone among others. We're also delighted to be joined by his fellow Karakter and Game of Thrones colleague: Mike Hill. He is a multi-discipline designer creating concept art for film, games and TV He worked of the biggest titles like Call of Duty, Blade Runner 2049, Horizon, Halo.
Illustrator and animator Loish (Horizon Zero Dawn, The Art of Pho) has been with Playgrounds since the first edition of The Art Department. She's a true inspiration for all artists, an emblem for girl power, a mastermind in terms of creating and managing communities. We're so lucky to have this super talented artist on our stage again.
Concept artist, illustrator and matte painter Jama Jurabaev (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Ready Player One) was present last year and we're simply thrilled to have him again giving a talk at The Art Department 2019.
